Tariffs and My own private Idaho
🇦🇺☎️🇺🇸 Trump and Australian Prime Minister Albanese had their first telephone call on 10th February with the big topic being the 25% tariffs.
Hopefully for Albanese Trump isn’t a big River Phoenix fan like Biden was resulting in the ensuing diplomatic incident on their first phone call in 2022…
DJ Albo
Australian PM Anthony Albanese was guest DJ at a Labor fundraiser in Melbourne in the run up to the 2016 election.
He played a track by Australian band TISM (This is Serious Mum) with lyrics:
“I’m on the drug
I’m on the drug
I’m on the drug
that killed River Phoenix
I saw his body thrashing round
I saw his pulse rate going down
I saw him in convulsive throws
I said “I’LL HAVE ONE OF THOSE!!”
Apparently some people may have somehow found the lyrics offensive.
In particular Joe Biden who was a lifelong fan of the film “My own private Idaho” starring his hero River Phoenix.
After their fiery first phone call, Albanese then had to issue his infamous 2022 apology to Biden who called him out.
The relationship between the two leaders was said to be normalising until the 2023 G20 Summit in New Delhi where Albanese suggested Phoenix’s performance in “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” was “shithouse”.
