The rest of the article contains histories of Meta, X and TikTok’s censorship of pro-Palestinian voices over the last two years - and the Israeli executives in charge of steering censorship in those companies.
2. Introduction
Netanyahu gave TWO important speeches in New York on Friday 26th September 2025.
9am: UN Address to an empty room bar an Israeli rent-a-crowd whooping in the galleries: he absolutely dropped himself - well Israel rather - in it by essentially admitting the real problem.
Reception with US influencers - in which he let the cat out the bag on the next front in Israel’s War. Social media.
This article focuses on the latter.
3. Sleekit Bibi
It was a brilliant speech and he’s a fantastic communicator. I say this with the cold appreciation for logic and black and white statements as an autistic person over distaste for the man himself and what he stands for.
His demeanour - as we would would say in Scotland - was of a “sneaky wee bastard”. Actually - the Scots word “Sleekit” is a good descriptor meaning crafty or sneaky. (I chose “Sleekit” as my monicker even though I chose “Sleekit Scotsman” more for alliteration than the '“sneaky” comparison!).
Rory Stewart & Alastair Campbell - both Scots - were meant to be answering a political question I had asked on their podcast, but instead went on a meandering tangent on “Sleekit” and came up with some interesting suggestions for what politicians might also be “sleekit”:
Speaking of meandering tangents, back to Bibi in New York.
4. What did Bibi say?
I’ll reproduce his speech word-for-word here with [body language]. The wily old master goes to work. He glanced at his handwritten notebook just once.
Netanyahu:
He talked about the “woke right” and I said I call it the “woke Reich”. That’s a brilliant observation. The “woke Reich”.
Because these people - they’re not any different from the woke left - I mean they’re insane. But there are actually meeting on some of the things.
[comment: this is what I’ve seen on some of the posts on TruthSocial from dyed in the wool MAGA, anti-Palestine racists - they want foreign influence out of the US Government and are specifically targeting AIPAC in posts - which the “meeting of the left and right” Netanyahu is referring to].
And what we have to do it to secure that part of the base of our support in the United States that is being challenged systematically.
A lot of this is done with money. Money of NGOs - vast; money of Governments - vaster. We have to fight back.
How do we fight back? Our influences [gestures to all round the table] - I think you should also talk to them if you have the chance, that community - they are very important. [glances at notes]
And secondly very importantly we’re going to have to use the tools of battle. The weapons change over time. You can’t fight today with swords, that doesn’t work very well. And you can’t fight with cavalry, that doesn’t work very well. You have these new things, things [gestures in the air] drones things like that, but I won’t get into that.
But we have to fight with the weapons that apply to the battlefields in which we’re engaged and the most important ones are social media.
And the most important purchase that is going on right now is… ? [leans in to listen] Class? Tik Tok [puts finger up].
Number 1. Number 1.
And I hope it goes through because it … because it can be consequential [nods].
And the other one - what’s the other one? That’s most important.
X. Very good.
And… you know [spreads arms] … so we have to talk to Elon. He’s not an enemy. He’s a friend. You should talk to him
Now if we can get those two things [puts fists together] we can get a lot and I can go on about other things but that’s not the point right now.
We have to fight the fight [palm flat on table] ok. To give direction to the Jewish people [gestures out] and to give direction to our non-Jewish friends or those who could be our friends.
Are we going to succeed with everyone? No. Will there be a counterpoint? Yes.
Bibi’s eyes lit up with talk of Tik Tok being sold. And obvious why - the purchasing consortium being “friendlies”.
But first some history.
5. Social Media crackdowns since October 7th
Obviously post October 7th social media BLITZED. No-one is under any illusions over the power of those who own the platform - the wave of social media orchestrated uprisings (yes “intifadas”) of the Arab Spring were a warning to dictators to block or pull the plug in times of unrest.
But what about tweaking the algorithm more subtly?
Pretty sure we’ve all been shadow banned or “not met community standards” on many platforms. Accounts randomly locked or cancelled.
Influencers suddenly losing hundreds of thousands of followers for expressing pro-Palestinian views. Alistair Campbell host of the Rest is Politics podcast recently noted that since he began questioning Israel’s approach on the program he has not had one single new user follow on X.
To do this - you need to go right to the top.
6. Meta: Censoring for Israel
Meta specifically has a role - the “Public Policy Chief for Israel and The Jewish Disapora”. And she’s an ex-Israeli Government employer and a former direct advisor to Netanyahu. No shit. Read on.
Meta has a specific “Israel & The Jewish Diaspora” policy Chief, Jordana Cutler who has been appointed to the role for almost ten years..
Before we even look at her CV … why does Facebook have a specific ISRAEL policy chief? …
I suspect looking at the timing of her appointment - 2016 - it had a lot to do with the attempted rebuilding of Israel’s global reputation after the 2014 Operation Protective Edge massacre in Gaza (which the ICC were investigating the Israeli Government for from 2021 already…)
Around that same time:
The CAA was formed in the UK
The IHRA definition of antisemitism was developed - which conflated criticism of Israel with Antisemitism
Trump installed in the White House with a radical program of pro-Israel legislation after being funded by pro-Israel billionaires the Adelsons.
So it’s interesting to see this very specific public policy group from Meta taking a high profile hiring also at this time - directly from the Israeli Government….
As to her CV. Wow1.
Israeli citizen of course (which would be controversial if the role was just “Jewish” diaspora policy chief - but it is Israel after all)

6.1 Anti-Zionism as antisemitism (July 2024)
In July 2024 the US Special Envoy on antisemitism called a global media conference with Meta et al to discuss cracking down on antisemitism online - as defined by the envoy,
Six weeks later Meta put a ban in place - making an announcement by Meta - defining “Zionism” as a proxy for hate speech3.
“…claims about controlling the media….” - at what point does statistical inference kick in to link cause and effect?
6.2 Trump Administration: freedom of speech - except if related to Israel
Fast forward to post the US Election - with Trump railing about free speech on social media platforms - not to protect Israel speech but his far right wing buddies.
Zuckerberg caved and made a cringeworthy backdown on censorship in Facebook in panic a week ahead of Trump’s innauguration you’d expect all “public policy” advisors on censorship to be scaled back4. Not so much.
It is evidenced that it is essentially US Government policy to “protect Israel as all costs” with exceptionalist departments and procedures all across the Government for this never mind the behaviour of Congress members.
Why wouldn’t an American company have that same alignment?
Notably - the US Antisemitism Envoy who originally gave Meta the nudge in 2024 in censoring criticism of Israel has been replaced by the Trump Administration. By an Israeli and Trump backer Miriam Adelson ally Yehuda Kaploun. You know what direction that ship will be steered in5.
2025 - In April 2025 Cutler noted she used her position to carve out specific protections for Israelis and Jews on the platform - redefining Zionist as a “’protected identity” with further restrictions6.
Cutler spoke at a Jewish News Syndicate event in April 2024 where she discussed7.
Expect more of the same.
And more “community warnings” on Insta for groups specifically protesting a genocide because it doesn’t suit Israel.
But hey, the aFD are OK by Meta’s standards.
And Israel’s too. They were invited to Israel’s March 2025 “antisemitism conference” in March this year - causing Germany’s antisemitism czar to pull out - because of the amount of actual antisemites like them invited8.
What suits Israel suits Meta suits Israel…..
7. X: Musk up
Elon Musk in the space of three months had went from providing satellites to Gazans during early communication blackouts to censoring X for Israel.
And like his strategic withdrawal from the White House after the insane drop in Tesla’s share price during his time in DOGE - his “understanding” with Israel came from a business decision.

Since purchasing Twitter in 2022 and relaxing censorship (even re-admitting big bad Donald Trump) Musk had a number of run-ins with the ADL accusing him of allowing antisemitism to flourish on the platform.
On November 16th 2023 Musk randomly replied to an antisemitic tweet from an unknown user commenting on an antisemitism ad griping about Jewish people with “you have said the actual truth”.
After further bungled posts, legal threats and even a rebuke from the White House advertisers began to flee from the platform citing rampant antisemitism. Not a good look from a dispute running well before October 7th - now untenable.
Someone in accounts must have tasered Musk at this point to refute allegations of antisemitism.
To restore revenue to X would require endorsement from the Jewish community. And where to get that at the topmost level? From none other than the leadership of Israel.
And I wonder what could a media mogul with a multi-billion dollar social media platform offer influential pro-Israeli leaders in return?
7.1 Elon’s pilgrimage (27 Nov 2023)
In the space of a week - Musk presumably made some calls and deals - and jetted off on a heavily publicised trip to Israel, during the only Israel/Hamas ceasefire.
Musk had a busy trip, visiting a Kibbutz from the Oct 7 attack with Netanyahu, then meeting with the families of hostages. He was given an IDF dogtag and pledged to wear it until all the hostages were freed9.
He then met with President Herzog behind closed doors.
In a readout from the meeting Herzog made a direct request of the X Platform:
“Unfortunately, we are inundated with antisemitism, which is hatred of Jews,” Herzog told Musk, according to the statement. “I think we need to fight this together, because the platforms you lead, unfortunately, have a large reservoir of hatred, hatred of Jews, anti-Semitism.”
Musk went on to:
Agree with the PM that Israel must destroy Hamas
Give Israel control over his satellites - saying that they would only be used for Gaza relief organisations if Israel consented.
7.2 Ben Shapiro and The European Jewish Association (Jan 2024)
Later in January 2024 Musk capped off with a personal visit to Auschwitz with Ben Shapiro and spoke at the European Jewish Association Conference.
7.3 Quid pro Quo: X Censorship
And that was it.
After pledging to fight antisemitism on X - clearly defined as “anti-Israel” - pro-Israeli accounts everywhere on Twitter started complaining about losing thousands of followers, their posts being restricted or seen less.
This “shadow banning” was only apparent since X launched a transparency feature to actually give you a message they were restricting you sometime after September 202310.
Clearly whatever algorithm drives this shadow banning was tweaked pro-Israel from Musk’s conciliatory November trip to recover revenues - when the blocking started being reported more prevalently.
No coincidence.
And Elon was onside:
That was April 2024 when he was re-tweeting Bibi. He had more business sense to toe the line. Until jumping on another expensive bandwagon a few months later… but that’s another story.
Long and the short of it - Bibi’s words “Elon is our friend” at the Israeli Consulate event on his September 26 2025 UN visit were on point. The platform is already shadow banning left right and centre. A few tweaks for pro-Israel content wouldn’t hurt I’m sure in parallel with the bigger goal of TikTok.
8. TikTok: The supreme prize
And so to TikTok owned by Chinese company Bytedance - with heavy investment from pro-Israel billionaire Jeff Yass.11
This was THE communications and information tool of the college student demographic in the United States and spiked after October 7th.
A fact not lost on the CEO of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Jonathan Greenblatt.
8.1 The rogue recording
A recording reputing to be the voice of aforementioned Greenblatt was leaked in which he heavily denounces TikTok as the tool turning a generation against the pro-Israeli cause, requiring focused effort to “solve” and also confirms monitoring of named pro-Palestine groups “that we’ve long tracked and have long been problematic”.
It is unclear of the date of the recording but October 7th is mentioned so clearly this is in the last six months.
Greenblatt too is a master communicator. His persuasive tone of voice on the recording is impressive. And his words accurate.
“… and so WE REALLY HAVE A TIKTOK PROBLEM ... A Gen Z problem that our community needs to put the same brains that gave us all these other amazing innovations, need to PUT OUR ENERGY TOWARD THIS LIKE FAST …
…because again like we’ve been chasing this left right divide it’s the wrong game the real game is the NEXT GENERATION and the Hamas and their accomplices…
the USEFUL IDIOTS IN THE WEST are falling in line in ways that are terrifying
last thing I’ll just say we saw a dramatic change in the language of the activists here in America on October the 8th the language of groups that WE’VE LONG TRACKING WHO’VE LONG BEEN PROBLEMATIC like Students For Justice in Palestine and Jewish Voices For Peace they flipped like this and went to like Iranian propaganda….”
As an aside, the two pro-Palestine groups named specifically in the recording were banned suddenly at Columbia University in November 2023 citing a rule-change that the University had made in their policies 17 days earlier behind closed doors without announcement or consultation.
8.2 The Lightning Bill
On March 16 2024 a Bill was RAPIDLY passed in Congress to ban TikTok in the US unanimously by both parties. It is currently in the Senate for review12.
It has been pointed out that accelerating a bill through Congress so quickly coincidentally with his comments indicates a rapid response by the Government in stark contrast not seen for long-standing critical domestic issues that would greatly benefit Americans.
The vast majority of members across both parties voting on the legislation had taken funding from pro-Israeli Lobby groups.
And sure enough on 24th April 2024 bundled up with a Bill to fund Ukraine, the President signed the TikTok ban into law.
Owners Bytedance were given 9 months to sell the company to a US-owned company with servers based onshore in the US or they would be shut down and banned in the US13.
The speed of this going through Congress so soon after this impassioned complaint from the ADL is not coincidence.
Surely Bills like these need to go through rounds of committee review before being passed into law? The reality is the other way round and (hopefully) longer. Legal action and appeal to the Supreme Court may take years in response to the ban.
Although I suspect somehow the backlog may clear at the Supreme Court to make a ruling here the same empirical way Congress bipartisan rushes through legislation proposed by the ADL months earlier.

8.3 TACO Trump stay of execution to the sale
And Trump came into office and gave a stay of execution for an outright TikTok ban for 90 days. Like his 90 day tariffs-not-tariffs Trump extended here twice TACO style (Tiktok-Axe-Chicken-Out).
And I note Tik Tok added a new hire in August as a sweetener for the deal and indication of the way platform content will be moderated going forward - much like Meta15.
But there is a buyer on this horizon for Bytedance’s data in the US. A consortium reportedly of Rupert Murdoch, Larry Ellison, and Michael Dell.
All staunch Zionists.
Hence Bibi licking his lips at the thought of the deal with TikTok going through.
9. Tick Tock TikTok
So we’re waiting to see who will win ownership of TikTok in the US. Should be announced any day now. Here is a pic of Bibi discussing the structure of the TikTok Term Sheet in the United Nations during his speech:
No scrub that … actually that pic was Bibi addressing the United Nations 13 years ago in 2012 presenting the fact that Iran were literally just about to create a nuclear bomb.
Sounds familiar.
So let’s say Ellison takes a share of the consortium and his chums are happy to go along with the new policy.
Ellison’s son has just taken ownership of Paramount and already we’ve seen:
cancellation of Colbert (done just pre-transaction so they can’t be blamed)
CBS news head a staunch Zionist
South Park skating on thin ice - who believes for a second that the second time the show misses a deadline in 30 years happens to be a few days after Charlie Kirk was assassinated?
Ellison is also keen to bid for Warner Brothers in the near future. Which would give a massive mix of old and new media holdings - in the hand of staunch pro-Israel support.
Back to Bibi’s words:

Epilogue: TikTok censorship in action - a Sleekit use case on Mamdani (Nov 2025)
Nothing better than a lived experience to prove a point.
On November 5th 2025 following Zohran Mamdani’s win in the NYC Mayoral election I published a video on multiple Sleekit platforms (instagram here) commenting on his Islamophobic treatment, contrasting the IHRA definition of antisemitism.
BOOM. Pulled from TikTok for “violating community guidelines” and after a rejected appeal, my first ever strike.
It just seems too coincidental with
August 2025: appointment of ex-IDF “passionate zionist” Erica Mindel to the role of Global Hate Speech Director for TikTok
Sale of US TikTok business going through to a consortium led by Larry Ellison and Michael Dell - both huge advocates of the IDF and supporters of Israel
Ellison has already started making inroads in censoring another purchase - assets as part of the Paramount acquisition
Netanyahu himself as in this article indicating the pivotal criticality of the sale - to pro-Israel buyers
And here’s a lived experience.
Taking another look at Mindel’s background gives a more concerning reference point for her “passionate Zionist identity”.
She says that this was during 2014 Operation Protective edge18, a suspected war crime under investigation before Oct 7th by the ICC where Israel responded heavy handedly to rocket strikes, killing 1500+ Palestinians in indiscriminate bombing. There was global outrage at Israel’s horrendous actions and they realised they’d “mowed the lawn” a bit publicly…
Sound familiar?
Mindel says that during that time she knew Israel would need advocacy which has shaped her career since.
And here we are - Israel’s same model of violence, exponentially damaging this time, with the same rinse and repeat hasabara to defend.
Extraordinary measures last time included the creation of a new hasbara group in the UK in 2014, the much-maligned “Campaign Against Antisemitism” (CAA) and in 2016 the creation and push of the IHRA working definition of antisemitism which as we known pushes criticism of Israel’s actions as antisemitism.
So post October 7th extraordinary measures? 10 years on where technology permits real-time streaming of a genocide on social media. Solution: an old model if an expensive one now - buy up the distribution channels.
And now demonstrably censoring our bloody social media posts. 😡
APPENDIX A: Upscrolled: a Palestinian built and owned TikTok alternative
This is a plug for an alternative to TikTok since it looks like it could be time to jump ship the same way people made a bee-line for BlueSky early 2024 after it became clear where Musk’s censoring lay. I think this was my X protest header for a time when I began using BlueSky.
Back to TikTok replacement.
As a foreword - I am not endorsed by the platform I’m spruiking, nor do I know anyone at the company. God knows I can’t even get a coffee for my writing….. hint .. hint ! 😉
A.1 Made in Shanghai: an earlier model
Rememberthe buzz mid-20240 when it looked like TikTok was going to get banned outright? Lots of people (me included) were migrating to Chinese platform Rednote at the time.
I was a full time student at Sydney University at the time and had the luxury of having Chinese fellow student to help me translate through the poorly designed platform.
And even then the censorship was even WORSE than TikTok!
Anyhow - a similar exodus could be occurring from TikTok again - see TikToker “Your Favourite guy”:

I just wanted to share another platform I’ve been using with refreshing content much like BlueSky is to X.
A.2 UpScrolled
UpScrolled is a Palestinian owned and build social media platform that I first saw promoted by the President of the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN) Nasser Mashni last year.
It is part of a network of apps and tech as part of the Tech for Palestine network.
I signed up - and have to say it’s been a pleasure to use and the content is very pro-Palestinian - indeed with a very large Middle Eastern user base.
I’ve been using it since July this year - thoroughly recommend. My only gripe is that they don’t have a desktop app yet for old people but sure it’s coming.
